Strength

Steel pipes are much more durable than PVC (polyvinyl chloride) pipes, which makes them more resistant to mechanical damage, including impacts, dents and cracks.

Corrosion resistance

Steel pipes require additional corrosion protection, for example by galvanizing, which increases their cost. PVC is a corrosion-resistant material, which is one of its main advantages. Corrosion is the process of oxidation or dissolution of metals and other materials as a result of chemical reactions with substances in the environment. Since PVC is a plastic, it does not contain metals, which prevents the corrosion process.

However, PVC pipes are not completely free from degradation processes. They can be affected by a long time of use, UV radiation, temperature changes, chemical factors, as well as mechanical overloads. If the PVC pipes are overloaded, especially in the case of smaller diameter pipes, cracks or damage may occur, which in turn may lead to leakage.

In addition, PVC can react with certain chemicals and products, including oils and solvents, which can weaken pipes and reduce their strength. In this case, the PVC may soften, which may cause the pipes to change shape or even burst.

Durability

Steel pipes are more durable than PVC pipes, which means they are less susceptible to fatigue and aging, and can withstand external factors such as UV exposure and extreme temperatures for longer.

Can be used in harsh conditions

Steel pipes are more resistant to harsh conditions and higher pressures than PVC pipes, which makes them ideal for use in large water and sewage systems.

Can be used at higher temperatures

Steel pipes are more resistant to high temperatures than PVC pipes, which makes them ideal for use in hot water systems.

Weight

Steel pipes are heavier than PVC pipes, which makes them more difficult to transport and install.

Cost

Steel pipes are usually more expensive than PVC pipes, which may influence their choice as a construction material.
